Hawzah News Agency- The anniversary is observed on the fourth of Rabi‘ al-Thani, marking the birth of Sayed Abdul-Azim Al-Hasani in Medina in 173 AH. He was a descendant of Imam Al-Hasan ibn Ali, peace be upon him, with his lineage tracing through several generations to the grandson of the Holy Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him and his family.
Throughout his life, Sayed Abdul-Azim Al-Hasani benefited from the teachings of several Imams of Ahlulbayt, including Imam Ali Al-Redha, Imam Muhammad Al-Jawad, and Imam Ali Al-Hadi, peace be upon them. He became known for his scholarship, piety, and dedication to preserving and transmitting the teachings of the Prophet’s family.
According to historical accounts, amid increasing pressure and persecution by the Abbasid authorities, Sayed Abdul-Azim Al-Hasani left Medina and eventually traveled to Iran. He settled in Rayy, where he continued his religious and scholarly activities while maintaining a relatively discreet presence.
In Rayy, he played an important role in guiding the Shia community, answering religious questions, addressing doubts, and teaching the principles and teachings of Ahlulbayt, peace be upon them. His standing was particularly recognized by Imam Al-Hadi, peace be upon him, who is reported to have appointed him as a representative and directed people to seek his guidance on religious matters.
The spiritual status of Sayed Abdul-Azim Al-Hasani has also been highlighted in narrations attributed to the Imams. Among the best-known is a narration attributed to Imam Al-Hadi, peace be upon him, who reportedly told a resident of Rayy that visiting the grave of Sayed Abdul-Azim Al-Hasani in his hometown would be comparable to visiting the shrine of Imam Hussain, peace be upon him, in Karbala.
Beyond his spiritual standing, Sayed Abdul-Azim Al-Hasani was an important transmitter of hadith and contributed to the preservation of Shiite intellectual heritage. He transmitted numerous narrations and is credited with authoring several works, including Khutab Amir al-Mu’minin (Sermons of Imam Ali), peace be upon him.
Today, his shrine in Rayy remains a prominent destination for pilgrims, who visit to commemorate his legacy and seek spiritual connection with a scholar who devoted his life to preserving and transmitting the teachings and values of Ahlulbayt.
